MastWeb project

It is well known that trees do not produce the same number of fruits and seeds every year. Why and how the individual species synchronise their seed production (seed mast), and how frequently and widely they do this, is still little researched.

MastWeb is a network of forestry and nature experts as well as interested citizen scientists who collect observations on the current seed production of trees. The collected data is analysed by a team of experts at WSL and made available to the public in the form of annual reports.

MastWeb App

Our new interactive app (progessiv WebApp, Android, iPhone) is an important part of the citizen science project Mastweb. The app allows forestry and nature experts as well as interested citizen scientists to report their mast observations directly in the field and to actively participate in the project. In addition, the app allows independent and interactive visualisation and evaluation of mast data since 1991.

A short documentation of the most important functions of the app can be found here.
